I just got my taxes finished last weekend. I always do my own taxes. Of course I use some type of software to help with dealing with deductions. As always, I don't have enough deductions this year. But I am gong to get a refund. It won't be as much as everybody else I work with. Do your friends, family, and co-workers get thousands back and you only get a couple hundred? Something isn't right. I don't have a house full of kids. So those deductions I don't get to claim. Too bad I can't claim the 2 dogs and 2 cats. After all they eat as much as a human. And they go to the doctor, and my insurance doesn't cover any expenses. And I can't claim those expenses on my taxes either. I don't think it is fair that I don't get as many deductions as some other people. My neighbor got to claim a water heater this year. My water heater didn't break down, so I get to pay more taxes because of it. I am telling you it just isn't right. I got some State tax back last year.... and I had to claim that as income!! That isn't income, that is a refund because I gave too much. It was mine to begin with... I just paid too much. Shouldn't the State have to pay me a premium? After all, they got use of the money all year. Maybe we need to think about that Flat Tax idea that was floating around a few years ago. I didn't understand it too much before and I still don't know a lot about it now. But the way I figure it, if everybody paid the same percent of what they made, then it would be fair all the way around. No deductions would mean no loopholes. I don't think the rich would like it though. I would knock out all their writeoffs. I bet the Democrats woujld like that. After all it is the rich they like to beat up on. Sometimes I think Democrats are poor people. Because they always want everybody elses money. So a flat=tax would eliminate the "I pay more than you" feelings. It would be even. Talk about filing the 'short form'! So what do you think? Would a Flat-Tax work today. Would if generate more or less money?
